Opening up about her battle with eating disorder on 'Dancing with the Stars', the 'Harry Potter' actress also credits her casting for the famous film series in her overcoming the disorder.

AceShowbiz - Evanna Lynch has credited author J.K. Rowling for making her "want to live again".

The 27-year-old actress, who starred in the "Harry Potter" films as Luna Lovegood, revealed on show "Dancing with the Stars (DWTS)" on Monday, October 08, that the British author helped to save her life, as she struggled with an eating disorder as an adolescent.

Evanna became pen pals with Rowling after becoming a fan of the "Harry Potter" book series, about a young wizard studying at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

"I just adored the Harry Potter franchise and Luna Lovegood was my favourite character, so it was just like a lot of things to process at once," explained Evanna in a clip shown on DWTS. In the clip she recalled 2006 as her most memorable year because she landed the role of Luna after an open casting call, adding it "helped me through a really difficult time."

"When I was like 11, 12, I was battling an eating disorder. Anyone who's had an eating disorder knows it completely takes over your life," she continued. "And the only thing that could actually take my attention apart from that was the Harry Potter series."

Evanna began writing to Potter creator Rowling, who wrote back and the pair became firm "pen friends".

"I was in and out of hospital and I would be getting these letters," she smiled, adding that Rowling's books and her "kindness really made me want to live again."

"Being in Harry Potter changed my life because it proved to me that I could do something, that I had something to offer the world. I love the feeling of creating and acting more than I love the feeling of being skinny or of being perfect," added Lynch, who danced a Viennese Waltz with her pro partner Keo Motsepe to the theme song from "Harry Potter".

However, the Irish star insisted Rowling never had a hand in her casting.

"That letter that you saw was her reaction to when she found out," she shared.
