The former host of 'America's Got Talent' also spills to 'Uncensored' that his friends found it hard to believe that he managed to woo the 'Always Be My Baby' songstress.

AceShowbiz - Nick Cannon won Mariah Carey's heart by turning down the chance to star in one of her music videos.

Recalling how his romance first started with his now ex-wife, Nick told TV One's autobiographical series, "Uncensored", which airs in the U.S. on Sunday, October 07, that the key to Mariah's heart was telling her no after she asked him to appear in the music video for her 2008 song "Touch My Body".

"I was like, 'I ain't about to be in that video, people already think I'm corny enough! If you got me playing the nerd in your video...'It was not going down. I was like I pass," he laughed. "So I told Mariah no, and people don't tell Mariah no. And I was like, 'Yo, you got another one for me or something like that where we can get down, I promise you.' And she called me like, 'Not only do I have another video for you to be in and be my love interest for, but I want you to direct it'. Bam I'm in there!"

Nick, 37, and 48-year-old Mariah married in 2008, and welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan in 2011, on the couple's third wedding anniversary.

Though they split in 2014, with their divorce finalised two years later, the pair remains close friends.

During his chat with "Uncensored", Nick also opened up about how his friends doubted him when it came to wooing the "Always Be My Baby" songstress.

"At one point I was like I'm gonna get Mariah Carey," the star said. "It turned from my celebrity crush to, 'Nah, she's about to be my girlfriend.' People were bugging, like, 'There's no way you can get Mariah Carey.' I was like, 'Watch, I'm telling you.'"
