Joining Taika Waititi is Dave Filoni, who has been tapped to direct the first episode of the 10-part live-action series.

AceShowbiz - Right after Jon Favreau offered details of his upcoming "Star Wars" live-action TV series "The Mandalorian", fans are getting the first look at the live-action series. In addition to unleashing the image, Lucasfilm has announced an impressive list of directors who will help serve behind the lense.

The photo puts the titular character front and center. The official Twitter account of the popular franchise also announces that the production of its first live-action series has started. "Production on #TheMandalorian, Star Wars' first live-action series, has begun!" it writes in the caption.

Written by Favreau, "The Mandalorian" has tapped several directors to help "The Jungle Book" director bring the series to life. Among them was "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebel" director Dave Filoni, who has been rumored to be one for quite some time. He will direct the first episode of the 10-part series. Meanwhile, "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard ("Solemates"), Rick Famuyiwa ("Dope") and Deborah Chow ("Marvel's Jessica Jones") will direct additional episodes.

The official synopsis of the new series reads, "After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. 'The Mandalorian' is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

Favreau will executive produce "The Mandalorian" alongside Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, while Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. The series has yet to announce the casting, but rumor has it, "Game of Thrones" alum Pedro Pascal has been eyed to play the lead role.

"The Mandalorian" is set to stream on Disney's streaming service, which is set to launch in late 2019.
