After failing to make an appearance in season 7, this character is said to be 'very present' in the upcoming eight and final season.

AceShowbiz - Forthcoming season 8 of "Game of Thrones" will see the return of one of beloved characters on the HBO hit series. Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) best buddy Ghost is said to be appearing in the eighth and final season after failing to make an appearance in the previous season.

"Oh, you'll see (Ghost) again," "Game of Thrones" visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer revealed to The Huffington Post. "He has a fair amount of screen time in season 8."

Not stopping there, Bauer teased that Ghost is "very present and does some pretty cool things in season 8." He didn't give details on what cool things he referred to, but fans assumed that it had something to do with Ghost protecting Jon when the situation seems to be bad.

Fans of "Game of Thrones" know better that animal companions on the series will do literally anything to protect their humans. [SPOILER ALERT!] Bran's Summer died in defense of Bran when wights and white walkers attacked the cave of the Three-Eyed Raven, while Daenerys's Viserion was killed by the Night King before it turned to a wight.

Ghost and other Stark childs' direwolf first appeared on the show's premiere episode. The Starks came across a litter of direwolves, and Ned gave one to each child, including Jon Snow. Because at that time Jon was believed to be Ned's illegitimate son, his wolf was different as Ghost is the albino runt of the litter. Among the six direwolfs, only two are alive in the show: Jon's Ghost and Arya's (Maisie Williams) Nymeria.

Bauer said that the lack of direwolves' appearance in season 7 was due to the difficulty of filming real wolves for the visual effects work. "The direwolves are tough because you don't want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways," he explained.

"Game of Thrones" is set to return for its final season sometimes in 2019.
