Taking to his Twitter account, the 'My Name Is Ruin' singer expressed his devastation over the fatal accident in which his tour bus struck and killed an elderly man.

AceShowbiz - Electronic pop pioneer Gary Numan has been left "utterly devastated" after his tour bus was involved in an accident which killed an elderly man.

The unnamed 91-year-old man was struck and killed as he crossed a street in Cleveland, Ohio, on Monday, September 24. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to The Blast.

Numan had just arrived in the city ahead of the show at the House of Blues, but consequently axed the performance.

He has since posted a statement on his Twitter page explaining the reason for the show cancellation, writing: "We are all utterly devastated by the fatal accident involving our tour bus in Cleveland earlier today.

"Everyone of us is filled with a sadness that made it impossible to even consider playing our show this evening, and out of respect it would have been entirely wrong."

The statement continued: "I'm sure you can understand why we cancelled and I apologise to the House of Blues and to the fans for any difficulties or disappointment this decision may have caused. All tickets will be honoured at the point of purchase. At the moment all we can think about are the people affected by this terrible tragedy and to them we send all our love."

The incident is under investigation but the bus driver has not been arrested and there were reportedly no signs that he was impaired in any way.

It's unclear if "Cars" singer Numan was on board the bus at the time of the accident.
