In August, a representative for the actor confirmed in a statement that he had had the life-saving surgery.
"Matthew Perry recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair a gastrointestinal perforation. He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heels," it read.
A gastrointestinal perforation, also known as ruptured bowel, is a hole in the wall of part of the gastrointestinal tract. If left untreated, the condition could lead to a serious infection or cause further health complications.
Perry has often been candid about his struggles with his health, including his addiction to alcohol and painkiller Vicodin that began after his jet ski accident in 1997.
"I couldn't stop," the comedic actor told People in 2013. "Eventually things got so bad that I couldn't hide it, and then everybody knew."
Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the iconic U.S. sitcom, would often turn up to work hungover, leading his "Friends" co-stars - including Jennifer Aniston - begging him to get help.
"You can't have a drug problem for 30 years and then expect to have it solved in 28 days. Getting sober is a really hard thing to do," he explained.
Perry checked into rehab in Los Angeles in 2001, and has been sober for 17 years.
