Through a teaser for the upcoming new season, the show urges fans to cancel the show with the hashtag of #cancelsouthpark.

AceShowbiz - Ahead of "South Park" season 22 premiere, the long-running Comedy Central animated comedy has an interesting request for its fans. Through a teaser for the upcoming new season, the show urges fans to cancel the show.

The 15-second video features a deathly black background with "America has reached a crossoads. What will we do next?" written in white. The answer is quite surprising as it appears the hashtag of #cancelsouthpark emerges in the screen.

The show, which has been running since the last century, further echoes the remarks on its official Twitter. "At least Matt and Trey are finally being honest and hope that they #cancelsouthpark so they can move on!" said a fan of the show's creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone. Responding to the tweet, the account wrote, "Thank you."

Some fans, however, found it's hard to let go of the animated series. "You can't #cancelsouthpark on my birthday," a fan said. Another fan added, "What will happen of the children! #cancelsouthpark."

One other tweeted, "#CancelSouthPark whoever came up with this hashtag... 'SCREW YOU GUYS, IM GOING HOMEEEEEEE.' " Another fan wished that the whole #cancelsouthpark campaign is just a "joke."

Some fans assume that the cancellation campaign hints at the possible theme that the show will tackle in the upcoming season. "South Park" has always been known for exploring current topics and the cancellation may refer to the infamous cancellation of ABC's "Roseanne" after former star Roseanne Barr was fired following her controversial racist tweets. Netflix's "House of Cards" was almost canceled over Kevin Spacey's sexual harassment scandal.

Fortunately, "South Park" is not canceled as it's scheduled to return for season 22 on Wednesday, September 26 on Comedy Central.
