Even though the 'Silver Linings Playbook' star was constantly teased by her brothers, it helped her not be too concerned about her appearance taunts.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lawrence never thought much of her looks as a kid because the actress was constantly teased by her two brothers as "butt-ugly".

The "Silver Linings Playbook" star has become a fixture on annual lists noting Hollywood's sexiest celebrities, but the Oscar winner insists she received no validation for her beauty when she was growing up, so she didn't think her appearance was anything special.

"When I was growing up, my brothers used to tell me I was ugly. Butt-ugly, to be exact," the 28 year old, who is the youngest of three, recalls to InStyle magazine. "One time I went into the kitchen and said, 'Mum, am I pretty?' And she said, 'It doesn't matter.' She refused to answer!".

While her mother's response baffled her at the time, Jennifer has since learned to appreciate her reaction, explaining, "I was fortunate to go through a lot of my life without being too concerned about my appearance".

That has since changed after rising to fame with her breakout role in 2010 drama Winter's Bone, and getting ready for red carpets and glamorous photoshoots is just one part of the job Jennifer really enjoys.

"I love dressing up and wearing uncomfortable shoes and getting blisters," she quips.

The star, who recently became the face of Dior's new perfume Joy, has also developed her confidence in public after overcoming social anxiety issues, but she still has to censor herself to avoid blurting out the first thought in her head.

"I'm starting to get a little more control over myself," she says. "Like, I'm aware that I have a tendency to say whatever pops into my mind. So when I go out, I try to be my own personal trainer and tell myself, 'Don't say it.' "

And Jennifer is always reminding herself about her biggest life lesson to date.

"Everything gets better as you get older," she shares. "It's easier to cut through things, and everything gets simplified. Physically, everything gets worse. Like, why does my neck hurt? Why are my knees cracking? But emotionally, it gets better".
