The Spice Girls star previously revealed she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after rehashing personal problems from her past.

AceShowbiz - Mel B's ex-husband Stephen Belafonte is seeking temporary custody of the singer's youngest two children after the pop star announced plans to head to rehab.

The Spice Girls star, full name Melanie Brown, hit headlines this week, ends August 31 when she revealed she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after rehashing personal problems from her past for her new memoir, Brutally Honest, and would be entering a medical facility in the U.K. in the near future to tackle the condition.

She also confessed to using sex and alcohol to "numb" her pain, but realised she needed help after reaching a "crisis point" - although she insisted substance abuse was not the main reason for her planned therapy treatment.

However, Belafonte seized on the announcement and headed to court on Friday, August 31 to try and argue his case for taking care of their daughter Madison, six, and 11-year-old Angel, Mel's girl from her fling with comedian Eddie Murphy.

Belafonte's lawyer presented declarations from people close to the singer, including a caretaker identified as Russell Updegraff, who alleged he has been responsible for looking after the two kids while Mel reportedly embarks on booze binges.

According to TMZ.com, Updegraff also accused the pop star of becoming aggressive when she drinks, while also bringing different men home while the children are present.

Belafonte insisted he only wants to take custody of the girls to protect them from any harm, and to allow their mother time to address her issues.

Mel, who is also mum to 19-year-old daughter Phoenix from a previous relationship, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations, but she attended Friday's Los Angeles hearing, and the former couple reportedly managed to strike a deal in the judge's chambers. The details will remain confidential.

She filed for divorce from the film producer in March, 2017 after almost 10 years as husband and wife. The marriage split was finalised in December (17) after a bitter court battle, and they finally agreed to share custody of Madison in early August.
