The 'American Idol' alum says that the British singer is 'entitled to his opinion' and people 'need to give him a break.'

AceShowbiz - Adam Lambert wants Sam Smith to know that he always gets his back no matter what happens. The 36-year-old singer has broken his silence after the British singer faced backlash for saying he didn't like Michael Jackson in a video that Adam shared.

Talking to PEOPLE during the press conference of his limited Las Vegas show with Queen, "The Crown Jewels", he insisted that Sam's comment was taken out of context. "We had been out at sea all day! We had some champagne! I got home, and I was like, 'I wanna post a picture of my new Gucci sunglasses!' " he shared.

He went on explaining, So I had my phone on mute because I wasn't thinking. And I was looking through video, and I see a cute one of me in the sunglasses, and 'Oh there's Sam, okay I'll post it!' " But when the "American Idol" alum finally noticed the contents of the video, it was too late. Still, he took it down because "that doesn't sound right out of context."

"The poor guy - now people are jumpin' all over him! And it's like, look: The guy is entitled to his opinion. And also: It was a silver of a fuller conversation that was actually quite interesting. I think people need to give him a break," Adam continued, adding that the "Lay Me Down" singer wasn't bothered the backlash at all. "He's so cool and down to earth, like, 'It's not a big deal, whatever!' Hats off to him. He's not bothered."

Sam landed in hot water after a video of him saying he didn't like Michael was accidentally posted by Adam earlier this month. In the clip, the late King of Pop's "Human Nature" could be heard playing in the background, prompting the "Stay with Me" hitmaker to say, "I don't like Michael Jackson, but this is a good song."
