AceShowbiz - HBO has shared a glimpse of the highly anticipated final season of "Game of Thrones". Released in a video promoting the cable channel's 2019 lineup, the new footage previews Jon and Sansa's snowy but warm reunion at Winterfell after the King in the North going beyond the Wall to capture a wight before heading to King's Landing in season 7.
The video also shares first footage of "Big Little Lies" season 2, featuring Meryl Streep as Mary Louise Wright, Celeste's (Nicole Kidman) mother-in-law and the mother of Celeste's abusive husband, Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard).
The video also includes glimpses of "True Detective" season 3, which full first trailer has also been released, "Veep" final season, "Barry" season 2 and new entries like "Pod Save America" and "Camping" starring Jennifer Garner.
In other news, The Huffington Post reported that the eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" might debut later than initially thought. In an interview with the site, visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer said that he had just begun working on the show and would continue until May 2019. "In two years, we'll be eligible for the season eight work, which we're just beginning now," he said, adding, "I know I'm not doing anything else but 'Thrones' until May of next year."
That means the eighth season would be eligible for the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards, not the 2019 awards show. In order to qualify for the 2019 Emmys, "Thrones" would have to air the bulk of its final episodes before May 31, 2019. With that being said, this could mean the very earliest "Game of Thrones" could premiere was May 2019.
Responding to the premiere date speculation, a representative for HBO says that an airdate for "Game of Thrones" final season hasn't been announced yet. HBO's president of programming Casey Bloys previously said that the show would arrive in the first half of 2019 and fans hoped that the show would return in April, like most of the previous seasons.
The seventh season of the hit medieval drama series, however, premiered in July 2017.
