AceShowbiz - A new comic book character will be featured in upcoming season 9 of "The Walking Dead". The series has just added Cassady McClincy ("Love, Simon") in the recurring role of Lydia.

In the comics by Robert Kirkman, Lydia is depicted as the daughter of The Whisperers leader Alpha. In order to survive, the group wears suits of human flesh to evade Walker detection. Alpha will be played by new series regular Samantha Morton.

The comics also see Lydia having a romantic relationship with Carl (Chandler Riggs). However, since the AMC series killed off Rick's son last season, it remains to be seen how the show will tackle that storyline.

"The Walking Dead" is the latest to be added in McClincy's resume. The actress' credits include guest roles in series including Netflix's "Ozark", NBC's "Constantine" and Hulu's "Castle Rock". She last appeared in Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel-starring "Love, Simon" as Jackie.

New season 9, which marks the first season with showrunner Angela Kang, will feature a big time jump. The hit apocalypse series is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, showrunner Angela Kang, Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Tom Luse and Denise Huth.

The casting news arrives after "The Walking Dead" unearthed a slew of images from season 9 premiere. The newly-released images hinted at what to expect in the new season as well as revealed some interesting plot twists, including a huge relationship development between fan favorites Carol (Melissa McBride) and King Ezekiel (Khary Payton).

In addition to McClincy, season 9 will star new cast members including Angel Theory as Kelly, Zach McGowen and Rhys Coiro as rebellious ex-Saviors Justin and Jed. They will be joined by Brett Butler as Hilltopper Tammy Rose and John Finn as Tammy Rose's husband Earl.

"The Walking Dead" returns for season 9 on October 7 on AMC.
