AceShowbiz - Liam Payne is feeling "a bit fragile" following his "difficult" split from Cheryl.

The "Strip That Down" singer and the popstar, the mother of his 17-month-old son Bear, officially parted ways in July, and he opened up about their problems on two new tracks from his EP "First Time", which was released on Friday, August 24.

The 24-year-old stopped by British radio show "The Official Vodafone Big Top 40" on Friday to promote the release too, and spoke about the breakdown of his relationship for the first time.

When asked how he was doing, he replied, "I'm feeling OK, I'm a bit fragile at times. No, I'm alright you know, it's been OK. Obviously, there's a lot of stuff I've still got to sort out with my life."

He was then asked if it was hard having his private business all out in the open, and he admitted it was like "breaking up twice" and people should remember that the celebrities behind split statements are still people going through a tough time.

"You break up and like, obviously we've broken up and then it was like a couple of days or a couple of weeks before we actually like put the announcement out," he said. "And that's the bit when it really hits home I guess but at the same point it's like breaking up twice like, we already did this once and now I'm having to go through all of that again just because..."

He added: "You know, and I didn't really expect any of this obviously... it's difficult."

The former One Direction star's comments continue to fuel the suggestion that Cheryl, 35, was the one who initiated the split.

Liam first dropped the hint on new song Depend On It, with lyrics such as, "I'm not ready yet, there's still a thread left/ If I could just hold on, onto unravelling hope, give it one last go/ I don't know why, just need us to try."
