The 'Maleficent' star and the 'Allied' actor had a planned custody hearing, which is no longer necessary after they reached the agreement.

AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached an interim custody arrangement amid their heated battle for the custody of their six children. A source close to the situation tells ET that the exes reached the temporary agreement after it was recommended by their custody evaluator.

The Oscar-winning actress and the Golden Globe-winning actor reportedly had a planned custody hearing, but it's no longer necessary after they reached the agreement. "The interim arrangement was agreed upon by both parties after it was recommended by their custody evaluator," says the source. "There was no longer a need for the hearing."

Details of the agreement are currently unknown, but the source says that "Angelina is enjoying the last few days of summer before school starts" and "she is helping the children heal with their father."

Another source tells PEOPLE the estranged couple has agreed to continue the custody agreement which was decided by a judge a few months ago. "Nothing has changed since the judge made an interim custody agreement a few months ago in which he said Angelina must let Brad see the children," says the source close to Pitt.

In June, a judge ruled that Jolie should let Pitt spend more time with their children, or she would risk losing custody. However, the 43-year-old actress/director reportedly has a different way of raising her children.

"Angelina loves her children and wants the best for them," a source told ET at the time. "The trouble is she feels the best scenario for the kids is for her to have sole custody. She is prepared to do what it takes to get what she wants. .... Everyone involved has tried to explain to Angelina that having two parents in their children's lives is healthier in the long run, but she does not see it that way."

"Brad and Angelina have been encouraged repeatedly to settle this divorce amicably for the children's sake, but Angelina's expectations have actually slowed the process and have affected everyone involved," the source added.

Maddox, 17, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne spent much of the summer with Jolie in London as she filmed "Maleficent 2", while Pitt has been in Los Angeles to film Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". In the last few weeks, the humanitarian and her kids have been back in L.A.
