The new mom is rumored to be perfoming at the award-giving event, which will be held on August 20.

AceShowbiz - Rapper Cardi B is clarifying reports about her upcoming MTV Video Music Awards appearance, insisting she will be opening the show as a guest presenter, not a performer.

MTV bosses announced on Wednesday, August 15 that the "Bodak Yellow" hitmaker would officially be returning to the public eye at next week's prizegiving, leading many fans to rejoice at the prospect of Cardi staging her first post-pregnancy set.

However, the new mum, who gave birth to baby daughter Kulture last month, has now taken to her Instagram Story timeline to clear up the claims.

Sharing a snap of a Rolling Stone article declaring the event as her "first performance since giving birth", she wrote, "IM JUST OPENING IM NOT PERFORMING (sic)!!!"

Cardi, who leads all nominees for Monday's (August 20) VMAs with 12, had previously pulled out of plans to support Bruno Mars on tour in September after confessing she had "underestimated" the struggles of motherhood.

She has since signed on to make her concert comeback at the Global Citizen Festival in her native New York on September 29, when she'll perform alongside Janet Jackson and The Weeknd.

Cardi is also billed to hit the stage at the Mala Luna festival in Texas over Halloween weekend.

Meanwhile, she has been documenting her experience as a first-time mum on social media, and on Thursday morning, the hip-hop star admitted she was seriously sleep-deprived, as her little girl had been keeping her awake throughout the night.

"I'm so sleepy," she told fans in a video message. "Can you believe that I have not slept, 'cause little one doesn't want to go to sleep? Please go to sleep!"
