When asked whether her reason to leave is because of salary, the actress says, 'I've never complained to Showtime about pay parity.'

AceShowbiz - Actress Ruth Wilson has left fans in suspense after revealing she wanted to leave hit TV drama The Affair but can't explain.

The Brit was promoting her new movie Little Strangers on CBS This Morning on Thursday, August 16, when she was asked about the demise of Alison, her character in the TV show, who was killed off after four seasons in the 5 August finale.

"I did want to leave but I'm not allowed to talk about why," Ruth told co-host Gayle King, but then clammed up when the TV presenter asked her if it was salary issue, stating: "I've never complained to (network bosses at) Showtime about pay parity".

Earlier this year, in an interview with Britain's Radio Times, Wilson revealed that she was paid less than her co-star Dominic West on the show.

Ruth did admit she'll miss the fans of the show, adding, "I’m not coming back, because she’s dead. What’s been amazing to me is the fan response. It’s been absolutely, really moving for me, and to see a character like this can connect with people".

Showtime bosses appear to be a little puzzled by Ruth's remarks on the breakfast show, insisting they were unaware of any problems.

"We can't speak for Ruth, but heading into season four everyone agreed the character's story had run its course...," a statement from the network reads. "The impact of her loss will be felt as the series concludes next season. We thank the many fans who embraced the character of Alison and especially thank Ruth for her indelible work over the past four seasons".
