The comedian returns to small screen to play icon of children's television Jeff a.k.a. Mr. Pickles on the upcoming comedy-drama series.

Showtime just released a new trailer and an official poster for its upcoming comedy-drama "Kidding". Jim Carrey, who lands the lead role, returns to small screen to play icon of children's television Jeff a.k.a. Mr. Pickles on the half-hour series. Known as a funnyman, he shows his melancholy side in the new trailer as he is seen facing some problems in his on-screen life.
"There's a spark of greatness inside each and every one of us," Carrey can be heard narrating in the beginning of the trailer. "In you, in me, there's a lovely light, that can never go out." Afterwards, the footage shows Jeff's career as a children's television host when he entertains his audience with funny stunts.
He seems happy until one scene shows Jeff having an argument with his estranged wife Jill. "When you screw a woman you just met and she doesn't call you back," Jill tells Jeff in the trailer, before yelling, "It's not because her phone is broken, she doesn't like you!" The scene then switches to Jeff's face in close-up, showing his sad expression and teary eyes.
In the next minutes, Jeff is seen having fun at an ice skating center with several young people, but later he is seen going mad at a restaurant and he tells his date that he has pain and anger inside of him. The trailer ends with Seb, the executive producer of Jeff's show, telling the TV host, "Jeff, we don't have to do this today." It looks like Seb knows what is happening in Jeff's life.
Meanwhile, the official poster of the series sees Carrey with his slicked-back hair, opening a window filled with puppets, toys and flowers on his chest. The series' tagline reads, "Hi, cruel world."

"Kidding" also stars Tony Award-winning actor Frank Langella, Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener and Judy Greer. The Showtime series also marks the second collaboration between Carrey and director Michel Gondry after they previously worked together on "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".
The official synopsis of "Kidding" reads, "Jeff, a.k.a Mr. Pickles, an icon of children's television and a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America's impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him. But when Jeff's family begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairytale, fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: A kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking."
The series is set to premiere on September 9 on Showtime.
