AceShowbiz - A new detail about Jon Favreau's upcoming live-action TV series of "Star Wars" has found its way out online. The New York Times has revealed the production cost of the 10-part series, which will be written and executive produced by "The Jungle Book" helmer.
According the site, the highly-anticipated show "is expected to cost roughly $100 million for 10 episodes." Should the report be trusted, it will make the upcoming project one of TV shows with highest budget, joining the likes of HBO's hit show "Game of Thrones".
The whopping number, however, doesn't come as a surprise since the show will require Jon and Disney to spend a lot on VFX among other things. In addition, the yet-untitled series is expected to be the big selling point for Disney's forthcoming streaming service. It's understandable if Disney is planning to make it in the highest quality possible.
" 'Star Wars' is a big world, and Disney's new streaming service affords a wonderful opportunity to tell stories that stretch out over multiple chapters," Jon said. Speaking of Ricky Strauss, Disney's go-to programming boss, he added, "Marketing is about telling a story, and his background in that area allows us to collaborate and create new content."
Plot detail is kept under wraps. Jon, however, previously confirmed that the new series will take place seven years after the events in "Star Wars: Return of Jedi". The series will also explore the time period between the original and sequel trilogies for the first time in live-action form.
The project marks the "Iron Man" actor's return to the "Star Wars" galaxy. Prior to this, Jon lent his voice to a character named Pre Vizsla on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". The "Spider Man: Homecoming" actor also made an appearance in "Solo: A Star Wars Story".
Disney has yet to be announced the premiere date of the new series, but the streaming service is slated to be launched by the end of 2019.
