AceShowbiz - The first look trailer for season 2 of "9-1-1" is here for viewing pleasure. The almost 2-minute footage offers the first look at Jennifer Love Hewitt's character Maddie, an emergency dispatch operator.

Maddie is seen standing by in front of her computer before something is going on with the building. The lights turn off as an 8.2-magnitude earthquake strikes Los Angeles. The rest of the trailer later glimpses a slew of scenes of the emergency responders bravely facing the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations.

During her appearance at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday, July 2, Jennifer detailed her character. According to the actress, Maddie, who is also the sister of Oliver Stark's Buck, has "had a little bit of a tough time in her life." She continues explaining, "She comes to her brother pretty broken… and needing to start over." The former nurse becomes a 911 call-center operator in an effort to "figure out who she really is, and then hopefully help other people."

The 39-year-old actress also talked about her excitement in returning to FOX, on which she kicked off her career with "Party of Five". "I'm really excited to be back at FOX. It's been part of what has made this so heartwarming. FOX really started my career with 'Party of Five'," she said during the show's panel, which was attended by a slew of "9-1-1" co-stars.

Jennifer's casting is set to feel the void that's left by Connie Britton, who played operator Abby Clark in the first season of the procedural drama. "We are honoring the character of Abby," executive producer Tim Minear assured fans. "We're not forgetting the incredibly important role she played in the first season," he continued, adding that a "window" is "always open for her to return."

Also starring Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Ryan Guzman, season 2 of "9-1-1" is set to premiere on Sunday, September 23 on FOX.
