'I wish I could've been there more for her or reached out more and checked on her,' the singer says in an interview.

AceShowbiz - Meghan Trainor wishes she had provided more support to fellow popstar Demi Lovato after hearing about her suspected drug overdose.

The "Confident" singer was rushed to hospital on Tuesday, July 24 after being found unconscious at her Hollywood Hills home following a night out with friends.

First responders at the scene reportedly administered life-saving opioid-blocker Narcan and she is said to be "awake" and recovering at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The incident prompted an outpouring of love and support for the star from every corner of the entertainment industry and many, like Meghan, are wondering if there was more they could have done to help.

"I can't imagine what level she's going through and what her family is going through right now. And I just didn't know it was that bad. And I didn't know she was struggling so much," the "All About That Bass" singer told the Associated Press, adding that Demi has helped her deal with her own insecurities in the past.

In March, Demi celebrated six years of sobriety from drugs and alcohol, but she admitted on new track "Sober", released in June, that she had recently relapsed.

The songstress, who has also battled other demons including depression and an eating disorder, is now reportedly considering another stint in rehab.

"I wish I could've been there more for her or reached out more and checked on her," Meghan continued. "Because I've only, like, I sang at the Grammys with her once. And I do all these awards shows and I get to say hi a little bit. But you just feel like, ‘Ah, I wish I did something.' I wish I knew."

She added: "And I'm sure all her fans feel like that right now - just what can we do to help her? But I know she's just so strong. Just as a fan, I know she's so strong and she'll come back and she'll be better than ever."
