Reba McEntire and 'Hamilton' director Thomas Kail will be also among those feted at this year's gala, which will be held in December.

AceShowbiz - Cher, Reba McEntire, and Lin-Manuel Miranda have been named among the 2018 Kennedy Center honourees.

The stars will be feted alongside composer and pianist Philip Glass, jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter, Hamilton director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire at a gala in Washington D.C. in early December.

"The Kennedy Center Honors recognizes exceptional artists who have made enduring and indelible marks on our culture," a statement from Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein reads.

He goes on to call Cher "the consummate star", while country singer Reba "has inspired us over four decades with her powerhouse voice and music that conveys heartfelt, heart-warming honesty".

Rubenstein goes on to state stage musical Hamilton has "literally and figuratively changed the face of American culture".

Celebrating her latest honour, Reba writes: "I am so honored to be one of this year's #KCHonors recipients along with @cher, Philip Glass, @WayneShorter and an Honors distinction for @HamiltonMusical & its co-creators. Can't wait to see you all in DC!"
