According to a source, the couple doesn't 'get why there's backlash when it's supposed to be a really happy time for them.'

AceShowbiz - Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande recently announced that they would be taking a break from social media. While fans think that there might be trouble in their relationship, a source recently revealed that the couple only needed a break from haters who kept attacking them since they announced their engagement.

"They're just tired of being attacked," the source told PEOPLE. "They don't get why there's backlash when it's supposed to be a really happy time for them. Pete especially has been getting a lot of hate from fans. It's been hurtful, and he's actually pretty sensitive." According to the source, the twosome decided it was "easier to cut things off for now instead of being defensive all the time."

After stepping away from social media, Pete reportedly is "now in a good place," said a second insider. "He's decided to focus on his relationship and how happy they are instead of on all of the haters and naysayers," the source added. "They're still very happy and looking forward to getting married. He just doesn't need all of these trolls bringing him down."

Pete announced that he would be taking a break from social media after he was slammed for commenting "omg what a cutie" on his fiancee's tribute post to her late grandfather. The "Saturday Night Live" star shared on Instagram Stories, "I just don't wanna be on Instagram anymore, or on any social media platform. The internet is an evil place and it doesn't make me feel good."

Ariana followed him shortly after, telling fans she would only be posting on Snapchat. "Just sometimes can't help but bump into some negative s**t that really can bum u out and it's not worth it honestly. Promised I'd always tell you. I love u sm ! Be well & happy," the singer said, adding that she planned to be less aggressive in promoting her music on social media.
