AceShowbiz - Serena Williams was whisked off to Italy for a "dream" family vacation after expressing a craving for Italian food.

The Reddit co-founder took to Instagram over the weekend, July 21 - 22 to share photos from the couple's four-day trip, which wrapped up in Venice.

"She wanted Italian for dinner so...," he captioned a pair of shots from a gondola, including one of the tech guru smiling at his wife as the tennis ace finished a glass of wine.

The couple, along with baby daughter Alexis Olympia, headed back to the U.S. on Sunday, when the entrepreneur posted a snap of the city and vowed to return.

"Venezia made a great first impression on the family. We'll certainly be back," he promised. "But there's work to be done...".

Alexis and Serena, who became engaged during a romantic trip to Rome in 2016, also spent some time in the Italian countryside at the luxury Lake Iseo resort The Albereta Relais & Chateaux, which the sportswoman gushed about in a video clip on her Instagram page.

"Loving family time in beautiful Italy," she wrote. "What an insane room I stayed in. I got to look at stars from my bed at night!! This week has been a dream!".

The getaway took place days after Serena, who is making a career comeback after taking time off to become a mum, lost in the Wimbledon women's final to Germany's Angelique Kerber in London on 14 July.

Following Serena's defeat, Alexis took to social media to remind the world just how special his wife is.

"Days after our baby girl was born, I kissed my wife goodbye before surgery and neither of us knew if she would be coming back," he wrote in his tribute, referencing the medical problems Serena faced post-childbirth.

"We just wanted her to survive - 10 months later, she's in the #Wimbledon final".

"Congratulations, @angie.kerber," Alexis continued. "@serenawilliams will be holding a trophy again soon - she's got the greatest one waiting at home for her. Our family knows she'll win many more trophies, too. She's just getting started. And I couldn't be more proud".
