Meanwhile, star Camila Mendes teases during the show's panel at the annual event that things won't be easy for Varchie in the new season.

AceShowbiz - Archie Andrews' (KJ Apa) hell following his "worst summer ever" doesn't seem to end just yet. In the first trailer for "Riverdale" season 3, Archie and his friends will face new dangers in the upcoming season.

Revealed during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, the trailer hints at a big time jump since the end of season 2. The previous sophomore season saw Archie being arrested and jailed for the murder of Cassidy Bullock, a crime he did not commit. The trailer, meanwhile, features the time when he's finally free.

Archie seemingly wants to start afresh after the mess he's thrown in. "After the worst summer ever, I want us to have a normal Labor Day weekend," he tells his best friends Betty (Lili Reinhart), Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and girlfriend Veronica (Camila Mendes). They are later seen having fun in the lake, but unbeknownst to them, new threat is looming over Riverdale.

At the end of the trailer, Betty finds her mother seemingly joining Penny's cult. Joined by other cult members, Alice can be seen holding Polly's twins above a bonfire as if she's about to drop them any second.

In related news, a new actress has been added to the cast of "Riverdale" for the third season. Penelope Ann Miller has been cast as the Riverdale District Attorney Ms. Wright, the show announced on Sunday, July 22 during its panel at Comic-Con.

Ms. Wright will be the prosecuting attorney in charge of handling Archie’s case. With a conviction in mind, she will weave together disparate moments of Archie’s young life to portray him as a dangerous, violent sociopath who is capable of committing a heinous crime.

“Season three, first episode starts off Archie’s on trial for the murder of Cassidy. We’ll see if he’s going to go away or if he’s not going to go away," Apa said of his character's fate. Meanwhile, Mendes teased that things wouldn't be easy for Varchie in the new season. "Definitely the kind of distance and separation, if he goes away, is going to be tough. It'll shake things up," she explained.

Season 3 of "Riverdale" is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 10 at 8 P.M.
