AceShowbiz - Season 4 of The CW's "Supergirl" has tapped a "Smallville" alum. Sam Witwer, who starred in "Smallville" season 8 as Doomsday, is set to heading to National City in a series regular capacity.

In the upcoming new season, Sam will be portraying one of DC Comics characters named Agent Liberty. The character is described as the ruthless and terrifying founder and figurehead of Children of Liberty, a hate group that supports a human-first world order.

According to the official description from the show’s producers, Agent Liberty is depicted as "a brilliant orator in the guise of a family man." The scariest thing about him is how easily he can convince people that he's right. It's assume that conflict is bound to arise between him and Supergirl a.k.a. Kara (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO.

Witwer, whose credits include Syfy's "Being Human" and ABC's "Once Upon a Time", will join Erica Durance as one of "Smallville" alums to appear on the show. Durance played Lois Lane for seven seasons as well as recurs as Kara's mother Alura Zor-El. They were also joined by Laura Vandervoort, who portrayed Indigo in the first season. Vandervoort played Supergirl on "Smallville".

"Supergirl" underwent a major casting shakeup ahead of season 4. Series regular Chris Wood and Jeremy Jordan decided to leave the series at the end of season 3, though the latter is expected to recur in the new season. Meanwhile, Brainiac 5 depicter Jesse Rath was upped to series regular for the fourth season.

Also starring Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Katie McGrath and Calista Flockhart, "Supergirl" is set to return for season 4 on October 14 at 8 P.M. on The CW.
