The idea of naming wine based on literary rape and abuse victims from the dystopian series did not sit well with many.

AceShowbiz - An ill-advised attempt to cash-in on the success of TV series "The Handmaid's Tale" with a line of wine has left a bad taste in fans' mouths.

"The Handmaid's Tale" wines, named after characters from the series, have been pulled from stores after fans insisted the move was in poor taste.

Two of the characters who landed their own wine are sex slaves on the show, while the third, Serena Joy, is named after Yvonne Strahovski's controversial character.

The idea of naming wine based on literary rape and abuse victims did not sit well with many, and shortly after the line was announced, a storm of protest on Twitter prompted marketing bosses to pull the collection by the end of the day on Tuesday, July 10.
