AceShowbiz - The first look at the upcoming season 9 of "The Walking Dead" has found its way out online. The photo, which is released via Entertainment Weekly, gives fans of the zombie apocalypse series an insight into the big changes that are coming due to the jump in time.

As you can see from the photo, the characters are not driving around in cars anymore. The image features Michonne (Danai Gurira) on horseback leading a group of survivors in a very scaled down manner. Some carriages can also be seen in the photo, suggesting that they may put their luggage on it.

In addition to the first look, showrunner Angela Kang has offered up more information about the time jump in the upcoming season. "We'll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down," Kang tells the site. "Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we'll also explore what happens as resources are getting low."

She goes on saying, "We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we've seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they've got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There's a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers."

Even though Kang does not give further details about season nine, she teases that Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) utopian vision may not exactly go as planned. "We'll see our group together working in unity in a lot of ways, but you'll see some changes in the way that they deal with each other," she notes. "In some ways, you'll see that the vision has succeeded beyond anybody's wildest imagination. But you'll also see the cracks in that."

The new season of "The Walking Dead" will premiere this fall on AMC.
