AceShowbiz - Actress Nia Vardalos and her husband have confirmed their split.
The "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" star filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 3, revealing that she and Ian Gomez had separated almost a year ago (July 29, 2017), and hours after the news broke, the pair released a statement.
"We've been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time," it read. "Our relationship became a friendship, so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable.
"It is our hope that decency will prevail on the reporting of this story which will soon be yesterday's news. Thank you for respecting our privacy."
Vardalos cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind her divorce filing.
The actress is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple's daughter, Ilaria, who they adopted in 2008.
Vardalos and Gomez wed in 1993 and the couple's courtship inspired her hit 2002 movie, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".
The couple often appeared together onscreen and co-hosted the first two seasons of reality cooking competition series "The Great American Baking Show".
