The fashion designer explains that the purpose of the campaign is to bring attention to U.S. administration's harsh stance towards 'illegal alien.'

AceShowbiz - Jeremy Scott has been forced to clarify the meaning behind his new alien campaign for Moschino after an online backlash.

On Monday, June 25, Moschino head Scott added four campaign images, shot by Steven Meisel, to his personal Instagram account, featuring models Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Soo Joo Park and Vittoria Ceretti dressed in Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis-inspired outfits, with their skin painted vibrant shades of blue, yellow and red.

He initially captioned the photos, "The only thing illegal about this alien is how good she looks", but quickly edited the text after followers complained he was being ignorant to the plight of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border who have been separated from their children due to U.S. President Donald Trump's zero-tolerance stance on illegal border crossing.

In response to the backlash, Scott made his feelings on the matter crystal clear.

"WHAT IS AN 'ALIEN?' THE CONCEPT OF MY AD CAMPAIGN IS TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE US ADMINISTRATION'S HARSH STANCE TOWARDS 'ILLEGAL ALIENS.' I PAINTED THE MODELS IN MY SHOW AND THIS CAMPAIGN AS A WAY TO OPEN A DISCUSSION ON WHAT EXACTLY AN 'ALIEN' IS - ARE THEY ORANGE BLUE YELLOW GREEN? DOES THIS MATTER? THEY ARE OUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBOURS, CO-WORKERS, RELATIVES AND PEOPLE WE LOVE," he wrote.

While some applauded his efforts, others moaned he was still being "tone deaf" and that the campaign idea was, "So stupid. Does nothing for your cause at all".

Models Gerber, Ceretti and Park have all shared their Moschino images, though Hadid has yet to post her shot.
