AceShowbiz - Cher led the fierce celebrity criticism of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump after she donned a jacket with an insensitive slogan while visiting detained migrant children on Thursday, June 21.
Over 2,300 immigrant minors have been separated from their parents since May under President Donald Trump's zero-tolerance policy, regarding illegal crossings over the Mexico border into the U.S., with Pentagon officials confirming up to 20,000 kids are headed to military bases to be temporarily housed.
The outcry over the strict enforcement forced Trump to walk back his administration's policy to take children from their parents on Wednesday, and the following day, his wife Melania paid a surprise visit to one of the detainment centres to check in on the youngsters.
However, Melania has since been slammed for displaying extreme insensitivity by turning up to the internment facility wearing a $39 (£30) jacket from Zara with the words 'I Really Don't Care, Do U?' emblazoned on the back of the garment, which critics have branded tone deaf and insulting, insisting it was a cruel choice of wardrobe for the nature of her visit.
Cher was among the First Lady's detractors and took to her Twitter account to express her disgust with the outfit choice. "Melania in her'I don't care jacket' JUST'HAPPENED'TO SHOW UP UNANNOUNCED..TO DOCTORS.

Melania, who has been pushing a #BeBest anti-bullying campaign as First Lady, has also been pummeled with criticism by other celebrities, such as comedienne Kathy Griffin, who feuded with the Trump family last year (17) after posing in a staged photo that features her holding a fake decapitated President Trump head.
"wearing a jacket that says 'I really don't care, do u' at a time where the Trumps are being accused of not caring is a big f**king mistake," Griffin tweeted.
Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Arquette jumped into the discussion by comparing wealthy Melania to Marie Antoinette, the decadent last Queen of France before the French Revolution, who is famously quoted as telling starving poor people to "eat cake".
"Melania Trump attempts her fashion spin on let them eat cake! Meanwhile toddlers are locked in cages. This administration is a who's who of Classless bottom dwellers," Arquette wrote.
In response to the social media attacks, First Lady Melania's communications director Stephanie Grisham insisted in a statement there was "no hidden message" in the former model's ill-advised choice of attire and that the mother-of-one just wanted to see how the migrant children were doing.
"She wanted to see everything for herself," Grisham said. "She supports family reunification. She thinks that it's important that children stay with their families. She's seen the images. She's heard the recordings (of children crying). She was on top of the situation before any of that came out. She was concerned about it. The images (of migrant children being separated from their parents) struck her, as a mother, as a human being".
President Trump has since also taken to his Twitter account to comment on Melania's clothing controversy, insisting the words on her jacket were a message to the "Fake News Media".
