That forces the singer to cancel his Las Vegas: The Hits Come Home at the Westgate Las Vegas.

AceShowbiz - Singer Barry Manilow has been forced to cancel the official launch of his Las Vegas residency after falling ill with a chest infection.

The singer had been due to kick off Manilow Las Vegas: The Hits Come Home at the Westgate Las Vegas on Thursday night, June 14, but the sold-out gig has now been pulled.

The Copacabana hitmaker was hospitalised with a bronchial infection on the eve of the big launch, and his opening four shows have been axed. The dates were scheduled to coincide with his 75th birthday on Sunday, June 17.

"I can't believe this is happening," the sad star shared in a statement on Thursday. "Our new show is ready, we're all ready, and we were all looking forward to tonight".

Manilow, who began previews on 24 May, has been prescribed a course of antibiotics and is expected to be discharged in the coming days.

He is hoping to be well enough to return to the stage next Thursday, June 21.
