AceShowbiz - The next season of "American Horror Story" will be a little different than before. Creator Ryan Murphy announces on his Twitter account that season 8 of the FX anthology series will be a crossover between the critically-acclaimed show's first season, "Murder House", and third season, "Coven".

In addition, Murphy reveals that fans won't be waiting too long for the upcoming season to come. "The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won't be happening next year...because it's happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER," he tweets.

For now, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Kathy Bates are the only cast members confirmed for the new season. Meanwhile, details about the characters and plot are currently unknown.

Fans assume that Jessica Lange, who starred in "Murder House", will be returning for season 8 since her character in the first season is crucial. Lange was last seen in "Freak Show", and hasn't seemed to be planning to return. However, the new season may change that.

"Murder House" aired in 2011, following the Harmon family who moved into a restored mansion which is, unbeknownst to them, haunted by the ghosts of its former residents and their victims. Starring Connie Britton as Vivien Harmon, Dylan McDermott as Dr. Ben Harmon, Peters as Tate Langdon, Taissa Farmiga as Violet Harmon, Denis O'Hare as Larry Harvey and Lange as Constance Langdon, the season nabbed several nominations.

They included the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama, and received a total of seventeen Emmy Award nominations. Also through the season, Lange earned her Golden Globe Award for best supporting actress, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie.

Meanwhile, "Coven" took place in New Orleans and followed a Coven of Salem witches as they fight for survival. The season, which aired from 2013 to 2014, featured flashbacks to the 1830s, 1910s, 1960s and 1970s.

Peters, O'Hare, Farmiga and Lange returned alongside Paulson, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Jamie Brewer, Alexandra Breckenridge and Robin Bartlett who all starred in season 2, "Asylum". "Coven" also featured new cast membes Emma Roberts and Bates.

Season 8 of "American Horror Story" will premiere this September on FX.
