AceShowbiz - Beloved TV show "Aeon Flux" may be heading back to the small screen. MTV is developing a live-action reboot of the 1990s animated series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jeff Davis ("Teen Wolf", "Criminal Minds") is reportedly attached as the writer of the planned project. Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead" producer Gale Anne Hurd, who also produced the 2005 flick starring Charlize Theron, is set to produce the reboot. In addition to penning the script, Davis will join Hurd as executive producer.
It will mark Davis' return to MTV following "Teen Wolf", which ended in September 2017 after running for six seasons on the network. "Aeon Flux" is not the only revived show on the network as it is currently developing a reboot of "Real World".
The live-action project will be set in a future dystopian state. It revolves around a young assassin who teams with a group of biohacking rebels to save humanity as she becomes the hero known as Aeon Flux.
Not much is known about the project so far, though it is said that an official announcement on the reboot is expected to come later this week.
Created by animator Peter Chung, the original series aired in 1991 on MTV as a six-part sequence of shorts that was featured in its Liquid Television experimental animation series. Later in 1992, the network aired five individual short episodes. It was then followed by a season of ten half-hour episodes aired as a standalone series in 1995.
Meanwhile, the 2005 feature film adaptation was considered flop. Co-starring Frances McDormand, the movie was produced on a budget of $62 million and grossed $52.3 million worldwide. It has an appaling 9 percent rating among critics and 39 percent audience rating.
