The actor incarcerated for failure to pay more than $150,000 in support payments to his wife Elvira.

AceShowbiz - Former Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider has walked free from jail after spending around five hours behind bars for failing to pay spousal support to his estranged wife.

The actor checked himself into jail to begin a three-day sentence on Tuesday morning, June 12, but he was a free man again just before 4pm local time.

Sentenced on Monday, he was released due to jail overcrowding.

He was incarcerated for failure to pay more than $150,000 (GBP112,000) in support payments to his wife Elvira, who asked the judge overseeing their bitter stand-off to consider putting Schneider behind bars back in February.

John was given a month to get his finances in order and told to transfer the deeds of his home in Apple Valley, California to his estranged wife to satisfy the delinquency.

He has also been handed 240 hours of community service.

Schneider still has to complete a list of financial obligations or face another five days behind bars, according to TMZ.
