AceShowbiz - Opera singer and former America's Got Talent champion Neal E. Boyd has died at the age of 42.

The musician passed away from heart failure on Sunday, June 10, at his mother's home in Sikeston, Missouri.

He had battled a series of health issues, including kidney failure and liver problems, following a serious car crash last year (17), reports The Associated Press.

Boyd rose to fame in 2008 after winning the hit TV talent show and scooping its $1 million (£747,300) prize, and his first and only album, My American Dream, was released in 2009.

He also tried to embark on a career in politics, running as a Republican for a seat in the Missouri House of Representatives, but lost in both 2012 and in 2014.
