An upcoming documentary reveals that the 'Partridge Family' star admitted before shortly before his death he wasn't suffering from dementia.

AceShowbiz - David Cassidy confessed shortly before his death that he wasn't suffering from dementia.

The singer-actor passed away at the age of 67 last November after being admitted to hospital suffering from kidney and liver failure.

Earlier that year, he had announced that he was living with dementia and had stopped touring so that he could focus on his health and wellbeing following the shock diagnosis.

However, according to People magazine, an upcoming documentary airing on A&E reveals that "The Partridge Family" star never had the memory condition after all.

"I have a liver disease," he told A&E producer Saralena Weinfield, who he had called from hospital after falling ill in a recording studio, in a conversation caught on tape. "There is no sign of me having dementia at this stage of my life. It was complete alcohol poisoning. The fact is that I lied about my drinking. I did this to myself to cover up the sadness and the emptiness."

"David Cassidy: The Last Session", which will premiere in the U.S. on 11 June, also exposes how the former teen idol was still abusing alcohol in the last months of his life, though his children Katie, 31, and Beau, 27, mistakenly believed that their father was clean and sober.

The publication reported that producers were initially unsure whether to air the shocking footage, and ultimately decided to edit what was supposed to be a four-part series into a two-hour feature documenting David's attempt to stage a musical comeback while dealing with his health issues.

"I think it will strike a chord with people," producer John Marks predicted. "He wanted to share this very private part of his life, and to be honest once and for all. And I think he succeeded in doing that."
