Music

The 'Marvin Gaye' singer's sophomore album has been certified Gold in addition to getting rave reviews from music critics.

AceShowbiz - The bad reviews that Charlie Puth got for his debut album didn't make him feel down. In fact, he used that as a motivation to get better and he did it perfectly. Proving his skills as a capable musician, the singer released his sophomore album "Voicenotes" to rave reviews.

Taylor Weatherby of Billboard named the effort the album of the week, praising Puth's rawness and the collaboration included on the album. She noted, "The way Puth was able to put together a 13-song album that shows growth, adaptability and talent makes it seem like he's in this for the long haul." Mark Kennedy of the Washington Post called the album a "perfect pop" and stated that Puth had a fantastic career in front of him.

Responding to the positive reviews that he got, Puth said in an interview, "I'm glad people are finally hearing the real me. This isn't the story of how I got hooked up with some cooler producer - I always had this music in me, it was just a matter of executing it."

Released on May 11, "Voicenotes" debuted at No. 4 on Billboard 200 chart in addition to being certified Gold three days after its release. Singles off the set also received similar success, with "Attention" peaking at No. 5 on Billboard Hot 100. It also has been certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA. Meanwhile, "How Long" peaked at No. 21 on Hot 100 and earned a Platinum certification.

In support of the album, Puth is set to embark on a North American tour which will kick off on July 11 in Toronto, Canada and wrap up on September 1 in West Palm Beach. Puth won't be alone during his first headlining stint as he will be joined by Hailee Steinfeld. Tickets went on sale to general public on December 22, last year.
