The 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' actor believes that experience is more worth it than money when it comes to working on movies.

AceShowbiz - Alden Ehrenreich believes getting a small paycheck on a movie isn't always a bad thing.

The 28-year-old, who stars as Han Solo in the sci-fi saga's latest blockbuster offering Solo: A Star Wars Story, said it was the experience while making a movie that makes it worthwhile - not the money.

In an interview with online investing website Wealthsimple’s recurring series Money Diaries, he credited the talents of a good director for being able to get the most out of his cast with as little money as possible.

"Over the past few years, I've worked with some incredible, legendary directors – Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen, Chan-wook Park, Warren Beatty, Ron Howard, and the Coen Brothers – and I've discovered something fascinating: The better the director you're working with, the less you get paid," he explained.

"For me, the experience has always been worth it," Alden added.

The actor also revealed he's been lucky enough to never have to worry about money, but doesn't splash the cash.

"Not that there haven't been lean times," he admitted. "But on the whole, I've always had steady work and haven't dealt with the financial struggles that so many actors – and young people in general – often deal with when they're starting out.

"Like most people, I have a certain queasiness about buying anything that's really expensive," Alden joked.

And while he may be fronting one of the most expensive Star Wars movies ever made in the origin story of smuggler Han Solo, the actor has a rather inexpensive hobby.

"I've found that the one thing that brings me the most joy is something that costs me the least amount of money – reading books," he confessed, adding that Francis Ford Coppola taught him that the "greatest joy in life is learning".

"Books, I've always felt, are the greatest and simplest vehicle for learning," Alden continues Ehrenreich. "They contain so much wisdom... And the best part of all? They only cost a few bucks each. You can't make a better investment than that."

Solo: A Star Wars Story, also starring Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke, is in cinemas now.
