AceShowbiz - Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been named the recipient of the coveted Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The Veep star will be feted at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, D.C. on 21 October.

"Merely to join the list of distinguished recipients of this award would be honour enough, but, as a student of both American history and literature, the fact that Mr. Twain himself will be presenting the award to me in person is particularly gratifying," the actress jokes.

Past recipients of the accolade include Will Ferrell, Carol Burnett, Eddie Murphy, and Bill Murray.

News of the honour comes after a trying year for Louis-Dreyfus, who recently completed chemotherapy following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2017.

The 57 year old is in recovery and she will reportedly begin filming the final season of Veep this summer.

Meanwhile, Julia's Twain award announcement comes just three weeks after disgraced comedian Boll Cosby was stripped of his following a conviction is his sex assault case.

Last month, Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Temple University employee Andrea Constand at his home in Pennsylvania in 2004. The 80-year-old faces up to 30 years in prison.
