In addition to starriing and helming, Eastwood will produce the crime movie under his Malpaso banner alongside Imperative's Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas.

AceShowbiz - Bradley Cooper may be reuniting with Clint Eastwood in crime drama "The Mule". Cooper reportedly is in talks to star alongside Eastwood in the upcoming movie, which will be directed by Eastwood, according to Variety.

"The Mule" is based on a 2014 New York Times Magazine feature by Sam Dolnick. The movie is set to star Earl Stone (Eastwood), a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive -- easy enough. But unbeknownst to Earl, he's signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel, and also hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates (Cooper).

And even as his money problems become a thing of the past, Earl's past mistakes start to weigh heavily on him, and it's uncertain if he'll have time to right those wrongs before law enforcement, or the cartel's enforcers, catch up to him.

"The Mule" will be Eastwood's first acting gig after starring in 2012's "Trouble with the Curve". And should Cooper accept the offer, it will mark their reunion since 2014. The two previously worked together on Oscar-nominated movie "American Sniper". It was also reported that Cooper is eyed for a role in "The Mule" because Eastwood is a big fan of the "Avengers: Infinity War" actor.

In addition to helming, Eastwood will produce under his Malpaso banner alongside Imperative's Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas. Nick Schenk ("Gran Torino") and Dave Holstein ("Weeds", I'm Dying Up Here") pen the script. Meanwhile, Ruben Fleischer, David Bernad and Todd Hoffman will serve as executive producers, with Warner Bros. and Imperative Entertainment producing.

While it remains to be seen whether Cooper has closed the deal for "The Mule", "The Hangover" actor will next be seen in the remake of "A Star Is Born". Marking as his directorial debut, the feature stars Lady GaGa. "A Star Is Born" will open in the U.S. theaters on October 5.
