Along with a throwback picture of herself, the actress reveals that she suffered from postpartum depression for four years after giving birth to her son Arthur in 2011.

AceShowbiz - Selma Blair made a plea for good acting roles as she opened up about her battle with depression and anxiety on Instagram on Tuesday, May 15. The "Cruel Intentions" actress shared a throwback picture of herself on the site and wrote a lengthy caption in which she documented the career highs and personal lows she has experienced since she moved to Los Angeles more than 20 years ago.

She admitted that she "battled alcoholism and depression and anxiety" early in her career, but she said she was now "winning that battle", although she suffered from postpartum depression for four years after giving birth to her son Arthur in 2011.

"I had a son. Hi Arthur! I lived with #postpartumdepression for 4 long years. Crippling anxiety. I fell apart. The last moment being very public. I was sorry. I was humbled. I stayed humble," she wrote, possibly referring to her 2016 plane meltdown, when she was carried off of a flight from Mexico to Los Angeles on a stretcher after raging about an unseen foe she alleged had burned her "private parts."

The 45-year-old explained that she eventually got better and "the weight of grief" began to ease, but she still has struggles. "I cry quietly so as not to wake my child. I am a good mother. But I have always been an actress," she continued. "An actress who hasn't had hope I will really work again. Now, when I finally have a well to draw from... For better or for worse. I want to have hope again."

She continued, "I want to thank you all for believing in me. I (sic) want to find the right work for me. And for me as a mom and as a woman who has come so far in personal ways. I want to make us all proud. 21 years later... Maybe miracles will happen."
