The One Direction star and his girlfriend's plans to turn their English country home into a mega mansion are called a 'disproportionate' addition to their home.

AceShowbiz - Liam Payne and [Cheryl Cole]'s plans to turn their English country home into a mega mansion have been thwarted by planning officials. The One Direction star and his girlfriend wanted to build a huge extension that would've nearly doubled the size of their $6.9 million home in leafy Woking, England.

Liam and Cheryl, who are parents to a son, Bear, 13-months, were initially refused permission to extend their house with improvements, including an indoor swimming pool and a garage to house their fleet of luxury cars, last year. They filed an appeal against the decision in February, but documents seen by WENN show Woking Borough Council officials dismissed their pleas on Wednesday, May 9. The decision means that if the couple wants to go ahead with the renovations, they will have to take their case to Britain's High Court.

In a letter informing the couple of planning bosses' original refusal, their extension was called a "disproportionate" addition to their home. Council administrators also added that it was "inappropriate" in an area protected by the U.K.'s Green Belt laws, which restrict building outside undeveloped areas.

The "Strip That Down" singer, 24, bought the five-bedroom Georgian-style mansion in 2015, the year before he started dating the ex-Girls Aloud star. He was previously granted permission to convert the house's existing garage into a snooker room and build a luxury granny flat for Cheryl's mum Joan. However, the couple altered their plans as they wanted to build a larger extension.

Liam recently opened up in an interview about how he and Cheryl parent baby Bear, confessing he was in awe of her bond with their son. He told Hong Kong's #Legend magazine, "A mother and a child is the most beautiful thing to watch, but they're the closest thing ever - and you're close, but you'll never be as close."
