The pop superstar opened her performance at the annual event with a rendition of 'Like a Prayer' before delivering a bone-chilling version of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'.

AceShowbiz - The rumors are indeed true, everyone! Madonna stunned the star-studded audience at the 2018 Met Gala, which was held in New York on May 7, with a surprise performance of her hit song "Like a Prayer" as well as a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".

In a video taken and edited by Vogue, the audience members could be heard cheering as the pop superstar, dressed in a monastic cloak, walked down the stairs along with a group of people donning the same outfit. She opened her set with "Like a Prayer" before delivering a bone-chilling version of "Hallelujah".

At one point during her performance, she changed her outfit into a white sheer dress. She was accompanied by a group of young female dancers when she walked through the crowd while belting out the song. For the performance, she styled her blond hair in a low braid.

Earlier in the evening, the "Into the Groove" songstress appeared on the red carpet in a black Jean Paul Gaultier gown with a black net veil covering her face. Her stylist, Eyob Yohannes, described her look at the annual event as "Immaculate Goth Queen".

"The religious theme most certainly played into the look however we wanted to put a twist on it so we decided to make it all black," he told PEOPLE. "Madonna has always woven in religion and spirituality into her music and image throughout her career. This year's theme could not have better suited her."

Other attendees at the Met Gala included Hailey Baldwin, Shawn Mendes, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. The latter two appeared to put their bad blood behind them as they were seen looking friendly when they ran into one another. Both rappers even hang out together for a short time.
