The meaning behind Groot's last 'I am Groot' line in the latest Marvel movie shows the deep connection between teenage Groot and Rocket.

AceShowbiz - As those who have watched "Avengers: Infinity War" know, the movie doesn't end with a joyful victory like in many other Marvel movies. Instead, [SPOILER ALERT!] the superhero team suffered great loss after Thanos wiped out half of the Earth population, with many beloved characters disappearing into ashes.

Among those who don't survive the genocide is teenage Groot. The offspring of the original Groot from the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" has grown into a rebellious teenager in "Infinity War", but that doesn't mean he doesn't get along with the other members of the Guardians.

In fact, Groot's last words in the third "Avengers" movie reveal how deep his connection is with his travel mates, especially Rocket Racoon. Since the sentient tree can only say "I am Groot," a fan asked director James Gunn on Twitter what is the meaning of Groot's last line in the film.

"Might be too soon to ask this, but do you know what Groot's last line is at the end of the movie?" the curious fan asks. Gunn warns fans of a potential spoiler before revealing that Groot says to Rocket at the end of the movie, "Dad."

This is so heartbreaking as this tender moment might be the first and the last time we see between the two characters. Rocket is the only Guardian spare in the massacre, and he is left alone on Earth mourning the loss of his family and friends.

But if recent reports about "Avengers 4" are true, then Rocket won't be the only "Guardian" who returns in the upcoming movie. Zoe Saldana said in an interview with E! that she believes her character Gamora would return for the fourth movie.

After all, there will be "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", which Chris Pratt recently hinted would be filmed in 2019.

Meanwhile, the battle against Thanos will continue in "Avengers 4" which was filmed back-to-back with "Infinity War". Although the official title is not announced yet, the follow-up movie is set to arrive on May 3, 2019 in the United States.
