New reports say the late DJ died by a self-inflicted wound using a shard of glass and his family had been worrying about his mental state before his death.

AceShowbiz - Avicii's possible cause of death has been revealed. The "Wake Me Up" hitmaker reportedly committed suicide with broken glass. The Swedish DJ used a shard of glass from a broken wine bottle to cut himself that caused massive bleeding, multiple sources tell TMZ.

Two sources say that the fatal wound was on Avicii's neck. Another source, however, begs to differ, saying that the point of injury was Avicii's wrist.

Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman, on April 20. He was 28. According to a new report by PEOPLE, his family had been worrying about his mental state before his death. His brother flew to Oman, but he arrived a few hours after the star allegedly committed suicide.

"Avicii's family spoke to him on the phone earlier that week and got very worried about his mental state," a source says. "His brother flew to Oman to bring him home and arrived only a couple of hours too late."

His family previously released a statement indicating that Avicii, whose real name is Tim Bergling, took his own life. "Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress," read the statement that was released Thursday, April 26.

"When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most - music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace," the statement continued. "Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you, Your family."

The Royal Oman Police had ruled out any suspicion of foul play. "Two postmortems were carried out ... and we can confirm that there is no criminal suspicion in the death," authorities told CNN.

Avicii was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis caused by excessive alcohol use in 2012. He stopped performing live in 2016 after his health deteriorated.
