The movie revolves around an American-born Chinese economics professor who just realizes that her boyfriend Nick comes from an incredibly wealthy family.

AceShowbiz - Upcoming romantic comedy movie "Crazy Rich Asians" released its first trailer on Monday, April 23. Centering on a young woman who is kept in the dark about her boyfriend's secret rich family, the movie is based on a novel written by Kevin Kwan of the same name.

The trailer features American-born Chinese economics professor Rachel Chu who agrees to spend summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick Young. It soon becomes apparent that her boyfriend is super rich. On a plane to Singapore, Rachel asks, "So your family is rich?" Nick says, "We're comfortable," to which Rachel replies, "That is exactly what a super rich person will say."

The movie's humor appears in a scene where the two attend Nick's best friend's wedding party. Rachel says, "You really should've told me you're like the Prince William of Asia." Nick replies, "That's ridiculous. I'm much more of a Harry."

After Rachel is introduced to Nick's mother Eleanor Sung-Young, it is confirmed that Eleanor hates her. In a scene where Rachel takes a walk to enjoy Nick's house, she meets Eleanor. The latter tells her, "I know this much. You will never be enough."

Nick is in dilemma. All this time, he has been thinking that his family is his whole life. After realizing that his family does not like Rachel, who is also part of his life, he gets confused. The trailer ends with Nick rejecting his mom's call.

The movie stars Constance Wu as Rachel, Henry Golding as Nick, Michelle Yeoh as Eleanor and "Transformers: The Last Knight" actress Gemma Chan as Nick's cousin Astrid Leong-Teo. Joining the cast are Lisa Wu, Awkwafina, and Ken Jeong among others.

Jon M. Chu directs the movie from the script penned by Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim. Meanwhile, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and John Penotti produce the movie.

The movie has been slated to hit U.S. theaters on August 17.
