During a SiriusXM event in New York, the country singer says that returning to the city 'was kind of a storybook ending to the whole thing.'

AceShowbiz - Jason Aldean has made peace with the tragedy surrounding the Route 91 festival massacre after returning to Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music Awards at the weekend. The singer revealed that returning to the city was healing for him.

"I think it was kind of a storybook ending to the whole thing," he said during a SiriusXM event in New York. "It brought a lot of closure to us and hopefully it did to a lot of people that were there. There'd been so much tragedy and negativity surrounding us and Vegas, the whole thing, that it was nice to go back and sort of end it on a positive note, and be back there for something that was positive. It was a cool way to sort of close the book a little bit on that."

The country singer picked up the Entertainer of the Year award at the prizegiving and performed in what was his first trip back to Sin City since a gunman opened fire during his closing set at the festival last October, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more.

The 41-year-old paid tribute to the victims of the shooting incident during the ACMs, as he took the stage to accept his prize. "To my Route 91 people, you guys are in our hearts always," he said. "I love you guys, and we love Las Vegas. Vegas strong, baby. Thank you."

Prior to the ceremony, Aldean admitted he would always struggle with trips to Sin City from now on, even though he loves the place.

"It's cool any time I come [to Las Vegas]... [but] probably for the rest of my life there will be a little bit of a weird feeling, at the same time," he said. "I love this city. I always have. I've had one night where it was horrible, but I've had a million great nights here and a lot of great memories. It's always going to be a little strange coming here."
