AceShowbiz - The "Terminator" reboot begins to shape up with another actor added to its cast lineup. "Rock of Ages" star Diego Boneta has nabbed a key role in the new entry of the sci-fi film franchise and is now in negotiations to join the production, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
The 27-year-old actor will join Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, the original stars of the franchise, who are set to reprise their roles as the titular character and Sarah Connor respectively. Other than report that he is to play a human, details of Boneta's character are kept under wraps.
In 2017, the original helmer James Cameron, who will be involved in the upcoming project as a producer, said that they were looking for an 18-year-old actress to play the movie's new lead character. Another report said the new female lead would be named Dani Ramos and be played by a Mexican actress.
The team was reportedly also on the hunt for a Latin actor to play the villain. However, considering Boneta's slight build and relatively young age, it's unlikely that he is cast as the villain. He's more likely to play an ally of Dani Ramos, according to /Film.
Boneta is best known for playing Rocco on the Mexican soap opera "Rebelde" and Javier on The CW's "90210". He made his feature film debut in Tom Cruise-starring musical "Rock of Ages" as Drew Boley and starred in the first season of FOX's horror-comedy anthology series "Scream Queens". He is featured in "The Titan", which stars Sam Worthington and is currently available on Netflix.
The "Terminator" reboot was recently pushed back from July 26, 2019 to November 22 of the same year. "Blade Runner 2049" actress Mackenzie Davis will reportedly star as a soldier-assassin from the future. Meanwhile, "Deadpool" director Tim Miller is on board to direct.
