The '4:44' spitter also reveals to David Letterman that he has long known that his mother, Gloria Carter, is a lesbian.

AceShowbiz - Jay-Z is owning up to his mistakes he's made in his marriage to Beyonce Knowles. The "Empire State of Mind" rapper opened up about his infidelity in the latest episode of "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman".

Before Jay-Z got to share his story, host David Letterman shared his own story of infidelity. "You and I have one other thing in common, and I have to be cautious how I articulate this," David, who admitted that he used to cheat on wife Regina Lasko, said. "A few years ago, I got myself into some trouble, and the situation was my responsibility and my fault."

The comedian continued, "I did something that I had no business doing, and I regret it, and since then I have tried to acknowledge that mistake and be a better person."

Jay-Z later chimed in, saying that he could relate to David's story. "For a lot of us, we don't have, especially where I grew up and men in general, we don't have emotional cues from when we're young. Our emotional cues are, 'Be a man, stand up, don't cry!' " the rapper said.

"Much like you, I have a beautiful wife who was understanding and who knew that I'm not the worst of what I've done and who did the hard work of going to therapy and really, we love each other," he went on saying. "We really put in the work."

"For years, this music that I'm making now ["4:44"] is a result of things that happened already," the father of three explained. "Like you, I like to believe that we're in a better place today, but still working and communicating and growing. I'm proud of the father and the husband that I am today because of all the work that was done."

During the episode, they also touched on the topic of Jay-Z's mother Gloria Carter's sexual orientation. The 48-year-old rapper said that he has long known that his mother is a lesbian. However, they started speaking about it when he was recording for his album "4:44", in which he rapped, "Mama had four kids, but she's a lesbian/Had to pretend so long that she’ a thespian," in a track called "Smile".

"The only thing about that experience for me is her," he shared. "Imagine having to live your life as someone else, and you think you’re protecting your kids."

He went on saying that it was such an emotional conversation so that he started crying. "For her to sit in front of me and tell me, 'I think I love someone.' I mean, I really cried," he said. "I cried because I was so happy for her, that she was free."
