The planned TV series, which is set to be written and executive produced by 'Broad City' star Abbi Jacobson, is envisioned as a half-hour comedy.

AceShowbiz - A TV adaption of "A League of Their Own" is coming soon. Amazon Studios is reportedly developing a small screen adaptation of the 1992 movie starring Tom Hanks and Geena Davis.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the planned TV series will be in the format of a half-hour comedy. The new take on the feature film is described "less as a traditional reboot and more as a modern look at the story."

It is said that "a mini writers room set to open and deliver scripts before the streamer makes a decision. Jacobson will not have an onscreen role." In addition, the TV adaption will not feature Davis' Dottie or her kid sister and Kit (Lori Petty).

The logline of the project reads, " 'A League of Their Own' is a half-hour comedy infusing the warmth, humor and DNA of the classic film, while taking a contemporary spin on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The show will begin with the formation of the league in 1943 and follows the Rockford Peaches, season to season as they struggle to keep the team alive through close games, injuries, late night bar crawls, sexual awakenings, not crying and road trips across a rapidly changing United States."

"The series dives deeper into the issues facing the country while following a ragtag team of women figuring themselves out while fighting to realize their dreams of playing professional baseball," it continues.

Helmed by Penny Marshall, the original movie centered on Dottie and Kit who were recruited to join the AAGPBL and wound up playing for the Rockford Peaches. Hanks portrayed manager Jimmy Dugan. Also appearing in the flick were Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell, Meghan Cavanagh and David Strathairn.

"Mozart in the Jungle" director Will Graham and "Broad City" star Abbi Jacobson are set to co-write and executive produce the reboot. Alongside Graham, Hailey Wierengo will be executive producing through their Amazon Studios-based Field Trip Productions. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Television Studios produces the project.

As Abbi's deal hasn't been closed yet, both Amazon and Sony decline to comment.
